I, along with many others, was scared or confused by the words Faith and/or God. Over the years I have encountered many people that tell their story about how God has found them or shown them signs that he is with them. Hearing these stories just left me with that uncomfortable feeling of not understanding or believing what they were telling me. These past couple years have been full of change, feelings of being lost, and just taking life day by day hoping to make it to the next in better spirits. There was a hole that I just couldn't seem to fill, a sadness/emptiness that I didn't understand because how can I feel this way when I have so many blessings in my life?
Then while at work on Easter Sunday, God decided it was time for me to see that he is with me. I was moved in more ways than one by this sign and from that day forward I took the time to start reading about and attending my fathers church to try and answer this flood of questions that were pouring out of me.
The blessings in disguise (my father, church, and a few close friends), helped me dig deeper into my faith and really support me on this new and quite frankly, scary journey I was about to take. I was in search to find myself, fill that hole I had with the happiness of being vulnerable and trusting of God and the people in my life.
At church I saw the booth about mission trips and donating boots. As I hesitantly asked questions about what the mission was and who these boots would be helping, I learned that there may still be just one ticket left and they would take my information. I very soon after received a call that there was one ticket left for Kenya and if I was still interested I could have it but they needed to know in the next two days. In just a few weeks my life had changed dramatically and I believe that God sent me this opportunity in an answer to my prayers to him.
I am extremely excited for this opened door, an opportunity to learn from our sister churches in Kenya and help them along the way while I travel my own journey of trusting in God. While in Kenya we will be getting to know the children in the schools, planning activities to do with them, encouraging our missionaries and Kenyan partners in the schools and churches, hanging mosquito nets for the children and also be taking them on a field trip.
My hope for this fundraiser is not only to help with expenses for the trip such as passport, visa, immunizations, etc but more importantly, to get support, travel tips, and kind words from all of you in my life. This will be my first time out of the country and mark a new, exciting chapter in my Life Journey.
