In August 2013, 26 week pregnant Shannon Romanchuk Saturno was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Shannon immediately embarked upon a lumpectomy and 3 rounds of chemotherapy before successfully delivering her beautiful daughter Siena Hope on November 12, 2013.
Soon afterward Shannon continued her battle through a total of 18 rounds of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiation - she and her family were overjoyed when she was declared in remission in September 2014.
This past June a routine MRI revealed suspicious activity on Shannon's lungs and a follow up PET scan revealed that the breast cancer had returned, this time as metastatic (stage IV breast cancer that spreads beyond the breast and into other organs in the body). An August PET scan then revealed further progression.
Shannon will require chemotherapy for the rest of her life, much of which will be a trial-and-error process. While this news may be disheartening, Shannon and her family have taken the courageous and positive view to live each day to its fullest while continuing to fight cancer.
Community support for this beautiful family has been overwhelming. Please continue to help by contributing to this fundraising page, established in support of daughter Siena's education.
