THE STORY:

Overview
Children are our future. They bring to life what we let them learn from us.
Cross-cultural understanding is a base for peaceful history.
Belarus is a former Soviet Union republic and still is the last totalitarian state in Europe, but, fortunately, young people are not suppressed completely by the state here yet and are not fully controlled by propaganda of the neighboring Russia. It is critical to nurture them with knowledge of freedom, enlighten them, for they built a good balanced future shining with a cross-cultural understanding, mutual trust and readiness for a creative cooperation.

I search for funding for a group of talented arts students from Belarus to come to the USA, where they can learn in a short-term internship training an important value of freedom of a creation/expression, so they can bring this knowledge back home to Belarus, where it will grow further, ultimately making our world a better place for all of us.

Why I volunteer and What I share in this project?
I was an intern from the ‘former USSR’ on CNN IPP in 1992, at the beginning of 'Perestroika', and learned first-hand how a real working exchange strengthens the understanding between people on different sides of the planet. I’ve learned in the USA to love freedom, partnership and team work. I worked at creating the first independent TV network in Belarus later, with the support of USA foundations, and also worked later as an Executive Director for the Glasnost Defense Foundation in Moscow.
I live in Belarus now, neighboring both Russia and Ukraine. The international conflict is quickly escalating around us and is poised to bring back the cold war days. We are quickly losing the cross-cultural understanding we gained at the beginning of ‘Perestroika’.
I left mass media (I was a TV news reporter) because I hated to say what authorities forced us journalists to say. I then worked as a documentary director and devoted myself to culture – music and art. I worked in Los Angeles, California, managing a Russian-Swedish-American rock band also. Currently, I run a music management and video production company.
I feel this is the right time to combine all the knowledge, experience and resources my life’s awarded me with. I am to share it, or, even, invest it into the better future of our planet. Here is what I really could do.

How will it work? I want a group of talented in arts (music and video making) teenagers (who are still free from influence of political propaganda) from my totalitarian country, Belarus, to come to the USA, in order to go through professional internship where they will learn values of having an opportunity to create freely and compare with their situation back home, so they can bring back home a new, peacemaking gratitude to America for sharing its values and opportunities.
The group will consist of two parts – musicians and video makers. While a music part of students will prepare their tasks under the supervision of US professionals, learning from them, the video makers will film and publish on the Internet live reports which will help share this experience with their friends immediately, and it will help to facilitate an immediate discussion of the project at home and will involve much more people on the issue of friendship and mutual productive work.
I am seeking seed support now, or, say, a development funding. I’ll allocate first donations and support into making deals with big foundations, which will support the project and help develop it to involve more young people, Ukrainian and Russians as well. I’ll go to Cali to meet with schools and summer campuses, to make a deal with one that could host Belarusian children and provide sufficient "hands-on" experience and also contacts with American teenagers.
I have an organizational support from Belarusian Association of UNESCO Clubs to help with selecting the children for this project, and to provide documentation support for traveling to the United States.
I also ask you to share information about the project, because even support in a form of sharing in social networks or giving a like to the FB project page will help to demonstrate that we have an understanding forming already. Bigger sponsors will pay more attention if you demonstrate more support to the issue and more of a good will to stop the rise of a current cultural dislike.

More impact may be expected.
As a documentary director I will be filming the whole process for a documentary feature to show how experiencing American culture changes minds of young people from a totalitarian country into the understanding and practicing of freedom, tolerance and friendship.
I hope you’ll join my good will. I rely on your understanding, sharing and support.
Truly yours, Vita.
