I've wanted to be a doctor for as long as I can remember and could be found as a child wrapping my dolls in gauze. It wasn't until my mother's best friend passed away from breast cancer when I was in the eighth grade that I knew that I wanted to specialize in Medical Oncology. This event in my life was like a stone thrown into water, creating ripples that have led me down my current path.
Currently, I am an attending physician within the Mount Sinai Health System specializing in women's cancers, particularly breast and ovarian cancer. I conduct ongoing clinical research in the field of breast cancer and have opened two clinical trials with my mentor to benefit this population. I consider it an honor to be able to care for patient's stricken with cancer and have learned to embrace each day with a great appreciation for what life has to offer because tomorrow is not promised.
A year ago, I met an incredible patient. She was recently diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer and was coming in regularly for chemotherapy. Her bright spirit despite her current situation was inspiring. She was an avid runner and I was impressed by the dedication and strength she exemplified to continue running races while suffering through her illness. She had just run with Team Sharsheret the weekend before our chance meeting and that is how I first learned about this wonderful organization. She encouraged me to pursue my running aspirations and here we are today.
I am excited to share with you that I am an official member of Team Sharsheret for the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon! I have already begun to train for my race, and am inspired to undertake this rigorous challenge as I am doing it in support of an amazing organization - Sharsheret, a national not-for-profit organization supporting young women and families, of all Jewish backgrounds, facing breast and ovarian cancer at every stage—before, during, and after diagnosis. It is particularly meaningful for me to race on behalf of Sharsheret because of the support they have provided to friends who were touched by breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
As a member of this incredible Team, I have pledged to raise funds (which I hope to greatly exceed!) in support of Sharsheret’s breast cancer and ovarian cancer programs and services. I am asking you to please support me in my athletic and fundraising efforts as I take on this challenge. All contributions are tax-deductible.
Thank you, in advance, for your support!
