Shatila camp chess club
Organized by: James Caunt
Had a day at Shatila refugee camp Palestinian chess club in Lebanon. These kids love the game and some of them are really fucking good! The club is barely surviving, the electricity goes out and there are barely enough pieces to go round... The club is vital for the camp as it gives new arrivals from Syria a safe place to meet new friends, and keeps them off the drugs and out of the hands of extremists who try to recruit them. What can we do to help these little chess buddies to keep their club going? All donations will go towards rental of a hall, electricity and chess equipment. Sport brings people together, and many of the kids are traumatised from their experiences as refugees.. The chess club provides a safe and stimulating environment where they can improve their learning skills and keep away from those who try to lead them astray! It's a great club and needs our support!
