EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
My brother lost a long, on-again, off-again, battle with substance abuse 2 years ago in NYC. He moved to the city 10 years ago immediately fell in love with the culture, people and opportunity that only New York offers. Every time he and I would get together we would always make time to go running. Whether it was through downtown Miami, Central park or along the beach in our hometown of Wilmington, NC, running was always an activity that we both enjoyed and could pick up regardless of time or location.
Running the 2016 NYC marathon not only seems like a great way to honor his memory, but will also help to raise money for an organization that will fight to help others who have fallen victim to the disease of addiction. After seeing first hand the strangling effect addiction can have on an individual and the devastating impact on their loved ones, I can only hope that the money we raise will help others fighting to free themselves from its grasps.
My goal is to raise $4000. I encourage everyone reading this to look at all of the good work Shatterproof is doing, http://www.shatterproof.org/pages/2016-and-beyond, and to donate to this cause.
