EVENT DATE: Jun 27, 2015
My beard and I have had a pretty amazing journey. Whether we were just hanging around the house watching something on Netflix, getting profiled by the TSA at the airport, having the time of our lives in Key West, or receiving undue amounts of attention from older married women in Austin it has been a trusty companion through it all.
But it's not all roses. Having a beard like this takes a lot of work to maintain. Sometimes tough choices have to be made when it comes to choosing a meal because despite my best efforts, messy foods and large beards just do not mix. Some might say it makes me look like a crazy homeless person. Fewer might even say it's hiding a handsome face.
I decided to try to use this as an opportunity to raise money for a cause that is important to me because I have never done that sort of thing. All the money raised from this will go directly to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. For those that are not familiar with them, they are a nonprofit organization that has been helping defending civil liberties in the digital world since 1990. Their efforts help in fight against the NSA's mass-surveillance programs and ensure that First Amendment rights are properly extended to the Internet realm, among other things. You can read more about the EFF at https://www.eff.org.
For every $5 you donate, you will earn a chance to cut my beard. At the beard cutting event you will receive 1 ticket for every $5 donated, then one lucky winner will be randomly picked. (Just a heads up, unfortunatley it seems that the minimum donation Crowdrise will take is $10)
- You are technically welcome to do whatever you want with the beard. If I like what you do I may keep it for a couple days, but I reserve the right to shave it off that night. This is not an opportunity to make me walk around with something ridiculous on my face :)
- Only the beard hair is fair game...nothing above or behind the ears - I will provide a fully charged electric trimmer. You are welcome to being your own tools for trimming, but keep in mind the winner won't be announced until the night of the event so if you don't win you probably brought it for nothing
The location has not been chosen yet, but it will hopefully be a bar in Canton.
No signup is required to donate through Crowdwise and your donations will go straight to the EFF
