Crossroads for Women provides housing and wrap-around, comprehensive support services to women with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders who are working to break the cycle of homelessness and incarceration. Agency services, which are provided from a trauma informed and gender specific model, aid women in creating stable and self-sufficient lives for themselves and their children in the community. Wrap-around supports include parenting support, vocational and educational goal setting and achievement, intensive case management, and a therapeutic day program, among other supports.
I suffer from mental illness. This has been an embarrassing and frustrating experience for a lot of reasons, but part of that is due to the stigma attached to mental illness in the United States. Specifically, I have been diagnosed with PTSD and Bipolar II, which are not illnesses that are easily understood here, nor are they easy to live with without treatment.
I'm privileged. Had I not been raised in a middle class family that is more than willing to help me financially in times of need I likely would have ended up either homeless or in jail. Their financial support helped me until I was able to help myself by going to therapy and I have been well for years now. But not everyone is that lucky. This is why this organization is so important in my community.
Crossroads for Women's mission: To provide comprehensive, integrated services to support women working to break the cycle of homelessness and incarceration and achieve healthy, stable, and self-sufficient lives in the community for themselves and their children.
