Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
In the wake of 2013, the phrase "I'm running Boston this year" has been elevated to an entirely new level...especially for those of us stopped just short of finishing last years race. So needless to say, although I received an invitation to return for this year's race, I knew I'd have to honor the day by doing more than just the run itself. That said, when I saw the Shawn Thornton Foundation, which is dedicated to helping find cures for Parkinson's and cancer – was involved in this years race…there was simply no question - I had to be a part of it.
While the Bruins are a passion for all of us in New England, a cure for Parkinson’s and Cancer is especially near to my heart. Cancer has affected many I have known and loved, however Parkinson’s is a disease I have particular distain for.
My grandmother was diagnosed with this insidious disease at a time when they had little to no idea of what it was. Due to lack of knowledge and research, the only “treatment” was harsh at best, and left her paralyzed on one side. At the time of her diagnosis she was only in her 30’s, and would live with this condition for more than 40years – over half of her life. As I look back I realize what a truly amazing woman she was to have endured this disease with a level of strength and dignity beyond that which anyone should have to muster.
Having shared that, it is from a place of deep passion that I humbly and respectfully ask that you contribute what you can in support of this worthwhile cause.
"There’s always next year for The Cup”.
However, my hope is the Shawn Thornton Foundation, along with the energy surrounding the Bruins, will bring heightened awareness & funding to fuel the acceleration toward a cure sooner rather than later.
While there are as many stories as there will be runners in this years Boston Marathon, this one will be what propels me from Hopkinton to Boston on April 21…I hope you’ll come along for the ride by pledging what you can.
Thank you in advance for your time, consideration and thoughtful generosity!!
