Hello Friends!! I thought I would kick off the holiday season with an amazing opportunity to give back to the world via the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. I've been following the plight of elephants for a while now. There are now more elephants being killed each year than are being born. Due to poaching, diminishing habitat, and human-elephant conflicts, elephants are now at risk for extinction in the wild. An estimated 30-35,000 elephants are killed each year. The DSWT is targeting this crisis on a variety of fronts, including establishing anti-poaching and vetrinary units, the orphans project, conservation efforts, and community outreach programs.
I've recently fostered an ophaned elephant named Murit, who was born in May of this year and rescued at 7 weeks after becoming trapped in a well and left by his herd. He had a pretty rocky start, but is doing much better now (you can read about him here: http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/asp/orphan_profile.asp?N=318.
Please contribute if you can, or just pass this link along to friends and family that might share my passion for these majestic creatures. Happy Holidays!! xoxo S
