Hello lovely friends and family! So.....I am heading to Africa!! Can you believe it?? When I first started thinking about going, I thought no way, I cannot leave my family for more than 2 weeks!! But, I then attended the Beth Moore conference here in Spokane, and she was talking about how God has given us dreams, and how we as we grow older tell ourselves that we will do that.......LATER. While she was speaking I kept thinking about my dream of going to Africa; how I've always said "later." Well, not anymore!!
Sometimes I think we are guilty of allowing life to just "happen" to us instead of creating the lives we want to live! I know this has been true of me! So after praying about it and speaking to John, I decided that I want to follow Gods leading and go to Africa!
I am excited and humbled for the chance to go to Ethiopia this fall. I'll be spending two weeks observing an amazing ministry called Community Health Evangelism (CHE).
Community Health Evangelism (CHE) is a strategy in urban and rural centers of poverty around the world. CHE helps the people in a community identify their needs, evaluate their God-given resources and find solutions to improve their situations.
CHE often includes instruction on hygiene, clean water, safe cooking, latrines, health care, HIV/AIDS prevention and care and other basic life issues. CHE outreach programs are designed to reach non-Christians and are focused on evangelism, follow-up and discipleship.
I'll be traveling with a group of women from Life Center church here in Spokane, that will be lead by a team from New Covenant Foundation.
For the past several years, it seems that everything I read or hear about on the radio has a tie to helping the poor and underprivileged. I find myself moved to tears with every Compassion International magazine we receive. I recently read the book Kisses From Katie (thanks Keesha) and felt riveted by the story of a young girl falling in love with the people of Uganda. This gal, Katie, saw beyond the filth, disease, and poverty around her to the beauty of each individual. She allowed herself to see through God's eyes and found she had an amazing capacity to serve and truly love the people God put in her path. She has now adopted 14 young girls and is teaching those girls how to help those around them!
Honestly,I have dream I have for myelf and our family to find a way to serve and be involved with helping children and the poor as well! I want to serve as an example and teach my kids the joy of serving others! We recieve so much when we choose to give.
Which is what I am asking of you, too!! I need to raise $3,000+!! I need your help to get to this goal!! Pray about giving and give as you feel lead. You can give through this website and recieve a tax deduction statement from Crowdrise! It's SUPER easy and I SO APPRECIATE you being willing!
