Hello, friends. I know that this is the time of year when many worthy causes are asking for your financial support. I won't lie...I'm here doing the same!
It has been a huge honor and joy to serve on the board of Shelter Music Boston over the past year. My professional passion lies at the intersection of the arts, community, and equity- exploring the many amazing ways that the arts can help us to build empathy, recognize and honor identity, and lift up the existing artistic life of neighborhoods. Shelter Music Boston does just this. It's work focuses on bringing professional musicians together with citizens who are experiencing homelessness. I love the organization and the team behind it, because it models truly reciprocal relationships rather than a false framework of "bestowing" a program onto the community. It is about asking individuals who are homeless what they think and feel, and being artistically responsive to their voices.
SMB is at a critical juncture in its growth. It wishes to serve additional shelters in the Boston region, but needs help building the capacity that it is required to do so. I can promise that any financial gift you are able to make to the organization will be one that is deeply appreciated and respected in its use.
If it isn't the right time for a monetary gift, please keep SMB in mind and help us to share word of its mission as time continues. This is a gift onto itself!
Happy Holidays. Here's to 2017.
Shelter Music Boston presents classical chamber music concerts, of the highest artistic standards, in homeless shelters and other sheltering environments. Our goal is to promote community, creative interaction, respect, and therapeutic benefit. We believe all people deserve access to the dignity, creativity, and passion of classical music whether or not they have a home.
