Every day, thousands of pets are killed in overcrowded high kill shelters across California. These dogs and cats, potential companion animals for loving families, desperately need safe passages to foster homes and rescue agencies that can provide them with the rehabilitation and socialization they need to be permanently adopted. START addresses this need by providing monthly transportation services that link overburdened shelters in Central and Southern California, with resource-rich rescue organizations and foster homes in the less populated Pacific Northwest states of Washington and Oregon.

Shelter Transport Animal Rescue Team (START) seeks to promote animal rescue & adoption, prevent animal cruelty and control overpopulation through active partnerships with animal shelters, community outreach and inter-state animal transfers.
