Shelter House's mission is to provide crisis intervention, safe housing and supportive services to promote self-sufficiency for homeless families and victims of domestic violence in Fairfax County.
October is the official month for domestic violence awareness. Domestic violence affects 1 in 4 women - that's more than breast cancer, lung cancer and ovarian cancer combined. Most people think only of physical abuse when they consider domestic violence. Yet, financial abuse happens in 98 percent of all cases of domestic violence and is one of the most powerful ways to control a victim.

About the Purple Purple Challenge:
The All-State Foundation Purple Purse Challenge is a public awareness and fundraising campaign aimed to help victims and survivors through financial empowerment. Shelter House has from October 1-27 to raise funds that will help victims of domestic violence in Fairfax County. 100% of the proceeds collected through our www.crowdrise.com/shelterhouse site will go directly to Shelter House. Additionally, the challenge host, the Allstate Foundation, will award financial prizes throughout the campaign. We are competing with 160 nonprofit organizations nation-wide in this challenge. Help us be one of the top charities!
