EVENT DATE: May 01, 2017
Help us build a Shelter of Hope
The simulated disaster shelter visited seven different San Diego County locations in eight days to raise awareness and funds for the local Red Cross. A total of $355,587 was raised during the eight-day campaign, just under $150,000 short of the $500,000 goal. Local community leaders and partners stayed individual nights in the mock disaster shelter throughout the seven nights in the initial campaign dates; however the Shelter of Hope campaign entered “overtime.” Regional Red Cross CEO Bill Earley remained in the simulated shelter until this year’s $500,000 fundraising goal was reached - and we did it as of 5 p.m. on Monday, May 15!
If you missed seeing us during our first eight days, please click here to see a short video recap from the activities.
When disaster strikes, help can’t wait. People need shelter, food, water, first aid and emotional support. They need the American Red Cross. With generous and thoughtful support, the Red Cross can stay staffed, trained and outfitted to respond quickly and efficiently. The Red Cross depends on donations to support the community every day, and that is why we are asking you to help us provide that Shelter of Hope whenever it’s needed.
From May 1-8, 2017 we once again set up a mock shelter to raise awareness about the services the Red Cross offers disaster victims and to raise the funds that allow us to fulfill our mission of providing a safe place to stay, food and water, medical services and mental health support. Please help us spread our message of help, hope, and hugs for those in need.
