Dear Friends and Family,
For over two years, I have been volunteering for the Shepherd Center through Junior Committee. Junior Committee raises money each year with our Derby Day event and proceeds specifically benefit Shepherd's Recreational Therapy program. This program is responsible for helping patients adjust to their "new normal" by reintroducing them to their favorite activities (ie: rugby, fishing, painting and more) and by helping them learn how to navigate the world (ie: the grocery store, the airport, etc.) under their new conditions.
I joined Junior Committee because I believe in what this hospital does for patients with spinal cord and acquired brain injuries, but I also joined to meet new people and have fun. I have made a lot of friends, two of whom are former Shepherd patients. Hearing their stories helped me to realize that anyone can suffer a traumatic spinal cord or brain injury at any time and seeing how well they've adjusted and triumphed has emphasized the importance of what we do for Shpeherd.
Please consider making a donation, in any amount, to this wonderful cause that has become such a big part of my life.
With Love and Gratitude,
Decorations Co-Chair, Derby Day
