On January 16, 2004, my family's life forever changed with my mom's death from ovarian cancer. She was an amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. She defined what it is to be a caring, genuine, selfless individual and she is greatly missed by those who had the privilege to know her.
Two years ago I set out to honor my mom's memory by participating in a triathlon that benefited the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF). However, to find such a triathlon I had to travel out-of-state. This year I am extremely excited that the SheRox triathlon series, which has a charitable partnership with OCRF, will have a race in Denver! As a result, I've decided to once again participate in fundraising to honor my mom's memory. Two years ago I was able to raise over $3,000.00 and with your help I hope to match, if not exceed that amount.
Ovarian cancer often doesn't get the same attention that other types of cancer do. We've done an amazing job of raising awareness of breast cancer, evidenced by the fact that women diagnosed with breast cancer have a 5 year survival rate of 89%. However, women diagnosed with ovarian cancer only have a 5 year survival rate of 46%. Clearly, we have work to do when it comes to awareness of symptoms and funding research related to early diagnosis and treatment. I would greatly appreciate your support not only in helping raise money for research but also in helping to raise awareness of this often deadly disease.
You may contribute your tax deductible donation either through this website, by clicking on the donate button above, or by mailing a check made out to "The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, Inc" to Tracy Meyer, 12686 W. Crestline Ave, Littleton, CO 80127.
And if I go,
while you're still here...
Know that I live on,
vibrating to a different measure
--behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me,
so you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again,
--both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest.
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
...I will be there.
