Many of you know my mother. For those who don't; she has a huge heart, loves people, and is one of the most generous people you'd ever want to meet. She worked in the medical field for almost 20 years as a respiratory therapist to give back. Unfortunately she was exposed to the hepatitis C virus during her clinical training. They don't test for the virus routinely, however most people's immune systems kill the virus, but her's did not. She was asymptomatic for many years until January of 2016. She has been very ill since. After many tests, doctors visits, misdiagnosis, and an incredibly expensive trip to the ER they diagnosed her correctly. She tested positive for hepatitis C and has developed cirrhosis of the liver. She has to first eradicate the virus, but the treatment cost $100,000. Depending on the prolonged effect the virus has on her liver a transplant might be required. The average cost for that surgery is over $300,000. As a family we are taking on as much of the cost as we can, but we need help.
