Shirley's Medical Bills
Organized by: shirley vaughn
The day Shirley's baby sister was murdered, Shirley's mom, me, was dropping into a coma and needing life support. Shirley, all alone and only 17 years old had to make some very tough choices and face this devastating situation without any support and again all alone at only 17. I was in the ICU, and was on both a subsequent breathing machine along with a NG tub. This hospitalization consumed a full month where Shirley received little guidance, and no support or care and was forced to make the difficult jump to being an adult while burying her baby sister and almost loosing me, her mom while being cognitively disabled herself. Then shortly after discharge the home situation turned dangerous. As I could barely breath, struggled with walking and was trying to recover we then found ourselves fleeing domestic violence. From this ordeal Shirley has developed PTSD and that combined with her cognitive disorder (PDD) has significantly deteriorated her health to a bed ridden state. Currently Shirley is receiving treatment, medication, and ongoing help however, as I am needed to provide help with her ADLs and direct care, her bills are piling up.
