Shoes for Syria
Organized by: Chas Morgan
EVENT DATE Apr 23, 2016
Shoes for Syria is a campaign to send gently worn shoes to newly arrived refugees in Greece. Everyday thousands of refugees, the majority of them fleeing war-torn Syria, are arriving on Europe’s shores in hopes of finding a safe haven throughout Europe. Volunteers from around the world are greeting them with water, food, and blankets, but the refugees’ journey has just begun. Many are arriving in Greece but are forced to settle in other parts of Europe. To reach these safe havens refugees must walk hundreds of miles in footwear inadequate for the magnitude of their journey.
We have formed a relationship with the Starfish Foundation, a relief agency currently on the Greek island of Lesbos, to send shoes for incoming refugees. For these shoes to reach the refugees we are asking for donations to help cover the shipping costs. As able global citizens we have a social responsibility to help each other in times of need. We cannot look away at this crisis because it is not inherently affecting our individual lives. Let’s imagine ourselves in their shoes while actually putting them in your shoes.
To donate your gently used walking/ gym shoes please send to:
22 South Congress Street
Athens, Ohio 45701
All proceeds will go to UPS shipping costs. Shoes and additional funds will benefit Starfish Foundation:
