THE STORY:

It all started in the Fall of 2011 when the Pembroke Girls Basketball team wanted to so support for a community member that was battling breast cancer. What started out as a small act of love with the idea of using a coffee can to collect donations and a pink basketball to play the game evolved into a community wide initiative. With the support of Walt Disney World, Buffalo Bisons and Impressive Marks "Shooting For a Cure!" on January 5, 2012 was born. That evening the girls were able to raise an astounding $4,100! That following season these girls wanted to maintain their mission by making "Shooting For a Cure" as an annual tradition at Pembroke. In 2013, they were able raise to $7,118 with the generous support of our community and local merchants donating to our cause. In 2014 the girls set out to raise $10,000 for Roswell Park and blanketed the community with flyers, knocked on doors of local businesses seeking support and took to social media in hopes of reaching out to as many people as possible. Paired with a Bald 4 Bucks campaign at our school that evening, the girls were able to raise $11,112 for breast cancer research at Roswell Park, exceeding their goal!  Two seasons ago, a new group of core-players emerged, leading the charge in our campaign.  They traveled between Rochester and Buffalo, seeking the support of local area businesses as well as entire WNY our community.  Fighting off the winter-like conditions that evening, the girls team raised $9,019 with the generous support of our entire community.  There were an overwhelming amount of auction items donated by the Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bisons and Buffalo Bandits, paired with additional support from all of the pizza shops and Perry's Ice Cream!  Last season our team worked diligently, canvassing local area businesses and took to social media to spread our mission.  With the incredible support from our perennial donors, paired with the generosity of The Original Pizza Logs corporation, our team was able to raise over $10,000 for research at Roswell Park!

Over the past five seasons our Shooting For a Cure! mission has raised over $40,000 for Roswell Park and this year we hope to eclipse our previous season's total.  This year, on January 12h, the Pembroke Girls Basketball team will be hosting their 6th annual "Shooting For a Cure!" event in the hopes of again raising $10,000 for breast cancer research at Roswell Park.  Come on out and support our mission!
