In April of 2014, my father, Dwight, lost his battle to cancer, after fighting for over 2 years. For a very long and hard 2 years, we watched the strongest man we had ever known go through extensive treatment to fight a horrible disease. He was a man who loved his family dearly and made every sacrifice he could for us. He loved life, had a great sense of humor, and could build and fix anything he came across. He taught us about nature and history, the importance of working hard and loving even harder, and how to not take ourselves so seriously. The world lost a lot on that day in April, and I can only hope to pass along half of his knowledge to my own children who never had the honor of knowing him.
Shortly after in October of 2014, we also lost my mother-in-law, Bettie, to this same disease. She had been diagnosed about the same time as my father, and so there were many ups and downs, good days and bad. Bettie had always been a very beautiful and vibrant woman and took me in as her own from the time I met her.
We were fortunate enough to be there for each of them when they were called from this world to bigger and better things. They had lived good and full lives but were still taken too soon. We had so many more laughs to enjoy, grandchildren to put in their laps, hugs, phone calls, etc., that we won't be able to experience, but it drives us even more to pass along the legacies of these wonderful people to our children and beyond. It also drives us to help others who are still going through these difficult times, and to ultimately help prevent anyone from having to go through these experiences at all! I would be greatly honored by your support and hope that you'll join me in the fight against cancer!
