BENEFITING: California Council For Veterans Affairs Inc
On a daily basis our shelter has to turn away homeless female veterans because the US Department of Veterans Affairs has cut our numbers from 14 to 7 beds they will pay on a "grant and per diem" basis. Your contribution of $100 or more will allow our organization to open the doors to several homeless referrals without our agency having to charge the VA. For more than 42 years the California Council for Veterans Affairs, Inc. has provided has provided food, emergency/transitional shelter and supportive services to homeless female veterans with minor children in Los Angeles. Our “Women and Children First” program services include comprehensive case management, pre-employment skills training, vocational guidance, substance abuse counseling, parenting, and services to assist clients in the development of independent living skills. Our program also offers employment counseling, placement services, social service referrals, mentors and educational guidance. Mentors offer guidance and serve as role models to the women in our program. Weekly classes are conducted by seasoned professionals with topics that include “anger management, budgeting/financial planning, career planning, strategic development of personal goals and objectives”, among others. In 2014 we celebrated 40 years of providing services to this forgotten population. CCVA’s mission is to help make a difference in the lives of veteran women who are homeless, helpless, yet hopeful.
