I am a progressive minded occupational therapist and mother of two free-spirited boys living in Shreveport, LA. Through my experience as a pediatric OT, nutrition educator, and ex-Montessori parent I am very aware of the desperation and frustration parents live with everyday dealing with the current models of childhood education. We've got to do better for our children. Compulsory education has turned into something that alienates our boys and destroys their creativity. In addition to stunting their imagination and ability to move freely, the food is just downright horrendous and not really "food" if you ask me. If you are a parent or educator or just someone who cares about the future of our education system, take some time to donate, volunteer, or pass this on to those who will. I plan to use the money to start a homeschooling program first. Then, if we get enough support, maybe we can acquire a building with plenty if room for a garden. The kids can work as a team to complete various projects on-site or in the community. We can teach them to harvest and prepare wholesome, nutritious meals. They can teach us to explore our natural surroundings and understand our place in the universe. Using a multi-sensory approach to learning is easier when you are in a natural setting. And books, of course we
can't forget books. But why not let them read what interests them the most?
If you are with me, then give me a holler!
