Sierra Backcountry Backpacking/Hiking Gear/Transportation
Organized by: Randy Icelow
The closest I have ever been to God, the only experience I have had feeling a spiritual "high" has been while backpacking and being away-from-it-all for days at at time. There is proof out there!
1. What are you raising funds for?
I am here to raise funds so that I can afford the gear and transportation costs to lead groups of 6-8 people at a time on 4 day backpacking treks. I want to be able to offer this to these adventurers at minimal costs to them. The gear needed are essentials that can be re-used over and over again. Sometimes when you can step away from the busy loops you get stuck in you can find yourself. Answer the question, "who am I really?"
2. What will 100% of my donation go towards?
Gear I need and will purchase used from Ebay, Craigslist, etc.(for up to 8 people): 1. Backpacks 2. Sleeping Bags 3. Trekking Poles 4. Hiking Socks 5. Flash Lights 6. Tents 7. Camping Utensils 8. Insect Repellent 9. Food 10. Transportation
3. How will my donation make the lives of others better?
People taking these trips will include: 1. Young families 2. Newlyweds & Wedding Party 3. Retired Couples The solitude of a backcountry trip allows for a re-connection to the things that matter most. Opening the senses allows for the body and brain to relax into the real world right in front of your eyes. There is no better way to enter this peace than through four days on a high mountain trail with nothing but what you have on your back.
4.How many trips will you finish this year?
As of now there are three trips already planned. The permit for the Rae Lakes Loops in Kings Canyon has already been issued. The permit for the Pohono Trail in Yosemite has already been issued. The third trip is still being planned but will take place in the Kennedy Meadows section of the Sierra Nevada. As momentum builds and I can coordinate more families I hope to do another three trips this upcoming season.
This is my dream. My best experiences have been doing this. I want to eliminate the cost barrier of gear and transportation so that people who would not otherwise do something like this take the challenge and do something extraordinary.
With respect your time and consideration is acknowledged.
