Sigma Chi Derby Days 2016
Organized by: Adam Levinson
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), founded in 1949, is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. LLS's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS created the Information Resource Center (IRC) to provide blood cancer patients, their families and health professionals accurate, current disease information and support. IRC information specialists are social workers, nurses and health educators. Since its founding, LLS and its affiliates have raised over $1.6 billion in efforts to battle all forms of blood cancer, and over $310 million in 2014 alone! Over 1 million Americans are living with this disease, but research has improved drastically since the inception of LLS with breakthrough treatments in each decade since 1949. LLS has a special place in the hearts of Sigma Chi, as a recently active member of our fraternity was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Each spring we look forward to holding Derby Days in his honor and to contribute to the continued research and advancements of blood cancer.
