Hark Society (helping afterschool programs reach kids) we are a group of young professionals inspired to help enhance education & cultivate passion in the lives of underserved children in NYC, through extra-curricular and extra-classroom activities so that they can benefit from a well-rounded education.
For an athlete, there is no way to describe the rush of adrenaline you get when you're playing in a championship game with one minute left, when you're in the paint shooting with the game on the line, with your whole team is cheering you on from the sidelines.
For an artist, there is no greater thrill than watching the curtain rise on opening night, as you catch the first glimpse of a full house on opening night. Or, feeling euphoria when you see a row of canvases you created, on display for the first time for the world to see.
Experiencing these moments, and many more have inspired Hark Society's affiliates to be the young professionals we are today- opportunities that have allowed us to explore our passions and cultivate creativity as we gained the experiences necessary to grow as leaders and thrive in the real world.
When a community or family is financially struggling these very opportunities are often not available, though it is crucial for a child's development to have the support of afterschool programs. According to the After School Alliance, 15.1 million school-age children are alone and unsupervised in the hours afterschool. Out-of-school programs are essential to keep kids safe, engage children in enriching activities, and give peace of mind to working parents.
Students who participate in high-quality afterschool programs have higher attendance, behave better on a daily basis, and thrive on tests in the classroom. There are 18.5 million kids that would participate in afterschool programs if available to them according to the After School Alliance. At Hark Society we want to improve access to these programs for young students. Hark Society is actively seeking ways to stay true to its core mission of enhancing education and cultivating passion and by helping offer opportunities for afterschool programming for young students in New York City. Please join us in our pursuit and help support our cause.
