Jim Plikerd wrote -About me and my efforts: Much like so many others, the events of September 11, 2001 shook me to the core. I had to watch helplessly while so many brave first responders rushed in and put their lives on the line for the sake of so many others who needed their help. Stephen Siller was only one of thousands who made the ultimate sacrifice, but his story inspires me because of what he did and how he did it. I know many police officers, fire fighters, and military personnel who put their lives on the line for my sake every day. I try to thank them for their service at every opportunity, but this is another chance for me to do so - in honor of Stephen Siller, and specifically for those who have suffered injury in the line of duty. About the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation: The Siller Family started the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to honor the memory of their brother, Stephen, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. The goal of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to continue Stephen’s legacy by supporting our nation’s first responders and service members. Building for America’s Bravest, a proud program of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, constructs specially adapted smart homes for our most catastrophically injured service members.
