PLEASE READ !! THIS COULD BE YOU!! I am a 55 year old single father of a lifelong construction background. I have worked all my life in the glass and glazing industry since the age of eighteen. I have had numerous surgeries. The first, in 1994 for cervical disc fusion, with permanent, doctor restrictions, and the inability to lift over 20 lbs.,and recommend by the doctor to be retrained in a field, that would allow me to continue my financial independence. However, I was never given the opportunity to be retrained by the workers compensation carrier, Therefore, with a wife and 10 yr. old son to support , after 2 years of rehabilitation , I was released from the doctors care, and had no other choice , but to return to the only trade that I knew . Continuing to work , in the glass industry for the next 12 years took a toll on my cervical disorder, and progressed to Spinal Stenosis, diagnosed in 2007, along with total knee replacement in 2008. After being released from doctor's care, Once again had to return to the only trade I knew, and every day in constant pain due to my health ,and employers that would "dog" and use me, till they no longer needed me, or to be replaced by a "young buck ". Do you know how hard it is to get a job at 55 years old ? No one wants you. Now, I am facing another surgery ton the other knee and possible surgery on my lumbar due to the discentergrating Stenosis of my discs. I was blessed with another son in 2002, that is the "Apple of my eye". He is the greatest son a father could ask for. He is a 13 year old boy , that is so caring and considerate and helps me all he can. He means the world to me. I am unable to provide the financial means that a young child should have, and have no one that can help me. I have a 94 pickup that is in need of a transmission, ongoing household obligations, am diabetic, on medications, and have exhausted all monetary funds on hand, and public assistance/ food stamps that I qualify for. I would have never thought that, 30 some years ago, I would be in this position of such despare , and at risk of being forced out onto the street with no place to go. I am so scared, and worried that this will come true. I have filled for disability 6 months ago, but we all know how long that can take to get approved. I do not wish my situation on no one. All I can request is that, if someone out there reads my story, and can in any way do what they could do to save myself and my boy from the inevitable. And to the bosses and owners of businesses, Please remember it doesn't matter where you came from or how much you have now.. it can all be gone in a flash, and you also could be in my position. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and 'God Bless You All' Sincerely, Dean Luchard
