A few months ago I decided it was a good idea in between being a mother, a wife, and full time employee of the Boston Celtics that I should try and run the 2015 Boston Marathon. Keep in mind I have never run a marathon or ran more than 10 miles in one setting but when I set my mind to something it's on....so I am fortunate to say that this year I am able to try and achieve my goal and kick some a$$.
Now it's time to get a little personal. Many of you don't know except for my close family and a few friends that a few years back I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that likes to wreck degenerative havoc on joints and tendons. At one point it took me 10-15 minutes to just get out of bed and at least 20 minutes to shampoo my hair because the joints in tendons in my hands were so swollen I couldn't move them. After months of numerous doctors visits, medicines, and self induced injections to help with the inflammation and pain I started to see a little bit of improvement. Slowly we decreased my dosages with hopes that I would go into remission and I am happy to say 4 years later I am not only running 30+ miles a week but I have never felt better in my life. Whoop!
So instead of looking at the marathon has a hardship that I put on myself I look at it as an amazing opportunity that I am lucky to partcipate in with a foundation and team that I am proud to work and stand for. Just a few years ago I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to walk down the aisle or play with my son at the beach but as usual I kicked some ass and I'm going to continue to do so.
Please donate not only to the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation in support of our team or me, but do it to support your own struggles that I will happily run for and run over in April for you.
I couldn't thank and love my husband, son and family enough for supporting me and another one of my ridiculous ideas. They put up with so much of my craziness and without them I wouldn't be able to do this.
Go Celtics! Go Me! Go You!
