Zimbabwe has experienced a sharp decline on all crucial counts in the last decade: access to education, economic stability, employment, health, and overall life expectancy:
- The country is ranked 98th out of 117 developing countries on the Global Hunger Index, with an estimated 4.1 million people countrywide facing acute hunger.
- 16% of adults have HIV/AIDS, placing Zimbabwe in the top five most HIV/AIDS impacted countries in the world. As a result, the country also has one of the world's largest orphan populations.
- 72% of Zimbabweans live below the national poverty line. Many Zimbabwean children do not consistently attend school, as their guardians cannot afford mandatory public school fees.
