Slice of Hope has been an amazing experience for me in the past and I'm thrilled to be involved and able to help founder Obaid Kadwani once again!
I lived in Memphis, TN during my college years and I had the opportunity to provide a pizza party through Slice of Hope at a local shelter, Barron Heights Transitional Center. The staff at Barron Heights were so joyful and loving. You could tell they not only loved their jobs, but deeply cared for the residents there. I had asked a friend of mine, who was a music teacher and a piano player, to play a couple of musical favorites during the pizza party. She also volunteered her time and was happy to do it. The party was a huge success! The look on the faces of some of these people was not just joy, but an emotional stir of all of their ups and downs, triumphs, victories, and disappointments. They so appreciated receiving this party. I felt that they also deserve to gather, have some fun, and share food together. I listened to personal stories of trials and experiences, as well as wants and dreams. These people at Barron Heights just like many across the shelters of New York and the East Coast, also had goals and a future in mind like the rest of us. They hoped for improvement like the rest of us. They needed postiive encouragment like the rest of us. I walked away realizing that providing a source of love, care, joy, and positive energy can clear up ones heart and lift them up to a new perspective, allowing them to see potential in themselves and purpose in their future.
Please help me continue this strong force of change. As I've been saying for some time now, keep things moving! Donate to provide for the upcoming pizza parties in June! Every dollar you donate, gets a slice of pizza!
THANKS GUYS! YOU ROCK!
