BENEFITING: MYTEAM TRIUMPH
Welcome to Melissa Vaccaro's fundraising page hosted by mTT: Ainsley’s Angels of Eastern Carolina!
Here is a message from Melissa:
I am so estatic at the idea of running with my sister! My goal is to raise $800 for her brand new Freedom Push Chariot. With your help, I will surprise her first with the chariot and then with news of our first race, the 'Color Me Rad' on June 22 here in Buffalo, NY. Money raised will benefit the Special Olympics in New York. We would love anyone who is interested to join our team called "Creatures Unknown".
So, we have 2 months to raise the funds, order the chair, and train! Again, I want to try to surprise her with this chair (I can see her eyes lighting up), so lets keep this a secret. She is such an amazing woman and I am so excited for this great chance to "Roll with her and the wind"!
Thank you so much!!!

Meet Melissa’s sister, Natalie!
At the age of 24, while at work Natalie Barnhard became a quadriplegic. On October 22, 2004, a catastrophic accident changed her life when a 600 pound exercise weight machine fell over and landed on top of Natalie. She was working as a physical therapist assistant & licensed massage therapist at the time of injury.
Since 2004, with her strong faith in God, and support from her parents, family and friends, Natalie has been dedicated to intense rehabilitation and recovery therapy. She is committed to programs in Atlanta, Georgia at the Shepherd Center and First Step Physical Therapy that practice Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT). These facilities have different rehabilitation and healing philosophies, although collectively believe in the ability of people with spinal cord injuries to recover with the possibility of walking again. Natalie continues to work extremely hard and has made incredible improvements and physical gains. To learn more about Natalie please go to her foundations website
What is myTEAM TRIUMPH: Ainsley’s Angels?
Well, in short, it represents three of 16 athletic ride-along programs created for children, teens, adults and veterans with disabilities who would normally not be able to experience endurance events such as triathlons or road races. Everyone's support is much appreciated, as we aim to run many miles and create many SMILES !
Who is Ainsley?
Ainsley does not talk or walk; she does not play for fun; but she smiles, while out for a run. An inspiration to thousands, she is an amazing little girl with a smile that will light up any room. Shortly after being diagnosed with an extremely rare progressive genetic nerve disorder called Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD), Ainsley completed the Surfer's Healing Virginia Beach 5K road race. Her first of many running-aided, wind-induced smiles took our family's collective breath away as she received her finisher's medal and became an official Team Hoyt Virginia Beach (THVB) ATHLETE! Inspired by Dick and Rick Hoyt, and the only running team authorized by the Hoyt's to use their name, THVB provided Ainsley's family with a therapeutic means to fight the devastation associated with learning and trying to live with the fact that your child has a terminal illness. The positive energy surrounding the start line, the children smiling from ear to ear, the togetherness of every member preparing to "roll with the wind", the fearlessness of the athletes, the normalcy of the family, and the love we all have for each other is a therapy like no other. In an effort to spread this amazing experience to as many people as possible, Ainsley's Angels aims to see other families experience what the Hoyt's have experienced nearly 1100 times and what we have experienced over 40 times (so far). As such, we created three chapters of myTEAM Triumph to ensure others can "roll with the wind" and live up to the philosophy of, "Yes You Can."
