THE STORY:

Visit SAFE's Website at: www.NewSafeStart.org if you would still like to make a donation to support SAFE's efforts and to learn more about our mission, upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.

SAFE has a tremendous success record of assisting over 1000 survivors of domestic violence become financially self-sufficient from abuse in the Metropolitan Detroit, Michigan area since 2006.  SAFE combines critical Safety planning strategies with Job Seeking, Resume Creation, Interviewing Skills, Customer Service, Personal Finances, Networking and micro-entrepreneurship.  SAFE’s programs create customized plans to help survivors of domestic violence move towards safety and economic self-sufficiency.

Additionally, SAFE host two community awareness annual events which focus on strategies to overcome the economic abuse component of domestic violence while equipping community members with vital tools and resources to reduce domestic violence.  SAFE’s O.P.E.N. for Business Conference provides training in micro-entrepreneurship to become financially independent from abuse. Of our participants, 25% successfully launched businesses that are open today, 40% are still in the planning phase and 35% are working and receiving continued assistance from SAFE.  Sisters Acquiring Financial Empowerment also hosts its annual SAFE’s Health & Wealth Expo.  The highlights of this event include free health screenings, workshops, information & lunch. Over the last five expos, our attendance has grown exponentially from 250 guests the first year to 750 at the last event and we anticipate over 1,200 participants this year.

SAFE is raising funds to obtain a dedicated training facility, to expand our programs, support our annual community awareness events and meet the growing needs for survivors in our community.  Without the services of SAFE many victims of domestic violence and their children are at risk for further abuse, homelessness and poverty.

$25 donation will provide one victim of domestic violence with SAFE's customized micro-entrepreneurship training manual, and budgeting workbook.

$100 will provide two victims of domestic violence one month access on City of Detroit buses to travel to job interviews, view housing opportunities and attend SAFE's community based workshops

$1,100 donation will equip one SAFE trainer with a laptop computer, projector and wireless internet access to facilitate pop-up group weekly community workshops for 20 survivors of domestic violence per group at the various confidential community based training locations that SAFE provides its training.

SAFE is committed to continue to service our community and survivors of domestic violence.   We are asking for your help in donating to support our work and helping SAFE to win this challenge.  We are also asking for your support by posting this challenge to your social networks and emailing it to your contacts and asking them to do the same.
