Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ is a program dedicated to Turn Cancer Upside Down™. Cancer is personal and when you participate in a Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer event you raise money for cancer research. This family friendly event brings the positive energy of thousands of people at our Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer programs around the country cancer coming together, united in one cause to celebrate life and each other …. It is invigorating…. It’s infectious!
Each school day, over 46 school aged children are diagnosed with cancer and everyday over 664 adults over the age of 18 are diagnosed (CDC, 2015). What is less well known is that, “80% of children diagnosed with cancer already have metastatic cancer vs. 20% of adults” (childcancer.org). The incidence of cancer is increasing with our changing demographics and those who survive are living longer with the after effects of current cancer treatments.
The Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation seeks to fund research that preserves a survivor’s long term health and to one day have a world without cancer . Funding for cancer research builds the future, it helps build communities where cancer is caught early and treatment does not have long term late effects impacting an individual’s future health. It builds communities where we no longer fear the words cancer.
Why Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer? Because YOU CARE
WHAT IS SK8 TO ELIMIN8 CANCER?
Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ is the nationwide signature program of the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation. This is a third-party online peer-to-peer fundraising benefit hosted by clubs, rinks, or organizations where participants use CrowdRise to sign up their team of family and friends, and create fundraising pages and share their participation with their social network to raise money for cancer research.
Just like you…thousands of participants are signing up because they CARE and are raising funds by simply ASKing their network of friends and family, coworkers, businesses, etc. to donate toward the cause. With your support and that of the NHL, in partnership with U.S. Figure Skating and hundreds of clubs and ice facilities nationwide we are Turning Cancer Upside Down™!

This registration also allows for the Host of the event to manage day of on-ice celebration participation.

DO HAVE A MINIMUM FUNDRAISING REQUIREMENT TO PARTICIPATE?
like to have for their fundraiser. Be sure to ask the Host of your Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer fundraiser.
CAN I START MY OWN TEAM?
Yes, we love to have team captains start a team and invite others to join in your efforts. It is more fun to have a team and a team goal. Your team can not only ask for funds through social media, but hold a bake sale, car wash, etc. to help raise team funds.
Forming a team is easy! All you must do is register and start a team! Make sure you are the team captain and begin to invite others to join your team through social media. You are the heart of the Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer Program as you will keep your team motivated to reach your team and individual fundraising goals.
CAN I FUNDRAISE WITH A TEAM?
Yes, and we recommend that you join a team. Team spirit and common goals will help you in your fundraising efforts.
CAN I FUNDRAISE AND NOT JOIN A TEAM?
Yes, you may set up your own personal fundraising page and raise funds. You can receive donations on your personal page.
Is there an additional fee to skate?
Possibly. We understand the ice. Sometimes it is very difficult to find donated ice time, so some events have an admission cost to their on-ice celebration. We encourage all Hosts and participants to ask their rink to donate the ice time for the event, but in the event they cannot, we encourage a donor to cover the cost to skate. In the end, we leave this option up to your Host of Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer.
CAN MY CHILDREN PARTICIPATE?
Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer is a family friendly event for all ages and we encourage family participation. With a little help, youth have the potential to become great fundraisers and helping others is a great life lesson!

This is a great question. Each fundraiser is different. Typically, we see participants raising funds up to 1-2 weeks after the on-ice celebration as they are awaiting last minute commitments. However, some events extend the fundraising past 4-5 weeks. Either way, we are open to that timeline according to what the Host suggests.
whAT IS A VIRTUAL SKATER?
Virtual Skaters are individuals who choose to participate in Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer and only fundraise instead of skating. There is no fundraising minimum. ALL are welcome!
