BENEFITING: GLOBAL AUTISM PROJECT
ORGANIZER: GLOBAL AUTISM PROJECT
I've been working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and their families since freshman year when I answered an ad in my college's newspaper looking for students to work in an after school program. That year I started working a few hours a week with children and teens with ASD. We went on trips to local skating rinks and bowling alleys. Little did I know that this part time job would lead to my lifelong career. At that time, what appealed to me was how amazing these individuals were and how effective appropriate intervention was in impacting positive change in not only their lives, but in their families' lives as well.
I passionately believe that every child, teen, and adult deserves to live a full and happy life regardless of ability, race, sexual orientation, religion, income or geographic location. The US continues to evolve by supporting the essential components of appropriate services, integration, and acceptance into the community. The Global Autism Project strives to provide these components worldwide where information and technologies may not be readily available. The Global Autism Project believes that "autism knows no borders" and so do I.
In July I will be traveling with the Global Autism Project's Skillcorps team to Kenya. While there I will assist in teaching and training opportunities regarding ASD and culturally relevant, sustainable practices. The Global Autism Project has continued partnerships with the sites it visits and sends skilled volunteers to spread global acceptance of this disorder while teaching and empowering community organizations to provide evidence-based practices.
Volunteering in Kenya with the Global Autism Project will truly be a life changing experience for me but, more importantly it will help to provide life changing opportunities to so many more in Kenya and worldwide. Please participate in this global change by making a donation today and sharing my page.
Much love and appreciation in advance for any support!
