Skills for youth
Organized by: Heidi Larsen
The raising generation of stars, is our goal! We would like to teach our youth skills for the future, Carpentry, machinery, gardening and overall a good work ethic. For an after school program and for a summer program, we would like to offer a place that the youth can go and learn good skills. Our goal is to help the youth not get into trouble and to learn to garden and grow food, what plants can grow next to others and how to space and water the plants. We would like to have fish that they can raise, learn how to harvest and eat them. We would also like to incorporate learning about tools and working with the hands. For our hand on projects we would like to have the kids learn about woodworking, building, cement, knife making, blacksmithing, cabinetry. Also we would like the kids to do a service and donate some of the fresh food they grow and help our local food bank. There is also a canary here to help the kids learn how to preserve food! In order to do this we need to build a good place that is safe for the kids to have room to work. We would like to do a workshop area and also a green house, put some fruit trees in and bring in the fish. We also would like to be able to buy tools for each of the children to use and work with on there own projects so they can enter them into local fairs and other competitions, so they can feel a since of pride for they accomplishments! We need to get safty gear and work aprons for the kids as well as some paint to help them paint there projects after they get them finished. It is a great dream to help the youth and to help there self esteem and self improvement. We have been doing this for over a year now and the space we have is just not big enough for all the interested kids. We are so grateful for all the support that we are hoping to get from this!!! Thanks so much!
