THE STORY:

Until September 1st, I have decided that I will find one thing to skip every single day. Something that I place in a cart or pick up at a market (or pick up the phone to order) will be put back and that amount is going to Skip1.org. This could get embarrassing. It's a risk I am willing to take.

So, here's why. Skip1.org is a fantastic organization which encourages folks to think past this moment and beyond our small scope of reality in the hopes that we will skip that mani/pedi, massage, or double non-fat caramel latte we may have been looking forward to all darn day and give that money to some real, live, beautiful children in need of a meal. It's really that simple.

Trust me, it feels better and the rush lasts longer.

Currently, they are raising money to build a kitchen at the Lumbrera de Caballona School in the Dominican Republic. Currently, more than 100 kids at this school go the entire day without a single meal. That's right; no breakfast, no lunch, often no dinner, definitely no Ben and Jerry's. The horror!

Luckily, just $6,500 USD can build a brand new kitchen stocked with all of the accoutrements and appliances necessary to run it. The money will also build more bathrooms, as the entire school currently shares a single toilet. Ugh.

Yeah, so, if you were headed to get a five dollar footlong, maybe there's something in your cabinet at home you could munch on. Instead, head over to Skip1.org (a totally legit operation) and donate that $5.00 to the project.

Maybe that $5.00 can make a bigger dent in hunger than you had thought.
