SkyDive to raise funds for school musical equipment
Organized by: Mark Kirby
EVENT DATE Jan 11, 2016
In June 2015, I was privileged to be able to open a playground for the children of Madawachchiya School in the North East of Sri Lanka from funds raised by completing the 42KM Colombo Marathon. The $6000 raised enabled a fully functional and long lasting playground to be built for this school which is run by the local monk with stretched financial support. The look of happiness on the face of these amazing children made me realise how some of things we take for granted in the western world are simply a luxury in many places of the world. During the unveiling of this playground the children put on a parade with music equipment made of sticks, stones and tin lids. On the 11 January 2016 I am taking on a 13,000ft SkyDive Jump raising funds to buy musical equipment that will bring music and education to this remote village school. During a time of the year when we are all fortunate to be blessed with our friends and families, I reach out to you to think about those who have much less, every dollar (or dirham) counts and will go to a school which I believe is doing everything they can with limited resources to bring up these to make the best of their future lives.
