BENEFITING: Variety the Children's Charity of St. Louis
EVENT DATE: Oct 05, 2014
We are a group of medical students from Saint Louis University School of Medicine that will be participating in the MO' Cowbell marathon, half-marathon, and 5K in an effort to raise money for Variety of St. Louis. As a group, we hope to raise $10,000 for this charity.
About Variety of St. Louis: we feel that it is important that we raise funds for a local, non-profit charity that fights for a cause to which everyone can relate. The charity that we have chosen to support is Variety, a St. Louis charity that works to provide children with disabilities the vital resources that they need. The Variety club was established in St. Louis in 1932 and has been providing aid and opportunity for area children for more than 80 years. All the funding that Variety St. Louis receives stays in St. Louis. Dr. Railey has even said that Variety gave him his first pair of glasses! Below are a few examples of Variety’s many programs.
Variety St. Louis Programs
Kids on the Go Mobility: Providing children with medical equipment such as wheelchairs, speech devices, leg braces, hearing aids and more. The program’s goal is to supply them with the means to be physically independent.
Adventure Camp: Giving children with physical and intellectual disabilities a chance to attend summer camps where they can enjoy unique opportunities, such as cooking lessons, horseback riding and other age appropriate activities – for free.
Teen Time Saturdays: Variety gives their participating teens activities and outings during which they can socialize with old and new friends.
