Small Addition on my Cabin For My Parents to Live With Me
Organized by: ann marie hinze
HI, My parents are now in their 80's, and live over an hour away from me. I want to build an addition for them to come and live with me BEFORE it becomes medically necessary. I live in a very small cabin as you can see from the picture (640 sq. ft. and no closets.), and do not have room for them. I would like to build an addition with a master bedroom & private bathroom for them. I would prepare their meals, but this way they would have their own living quarters. I don't know how soon I could build the addition as it will take awhile to raise the money, but I would like to break ground in spring. It will cost money for the plans, permits, foundation, inspections, building materials, electric, paint, carpet, etc. etc. I have family members that are in the construction business that will help me build the addition free of charge if I get the money for all of the building materials. I plan on doing all of the finishing up by myself, such as filling drywall holes, painting, trim work, installing bathroom fixtures, etc., which will also save some money. It will not be elaborate, just a nice living space for my parents. They both have health problems, and I see them deteriorating both physically and mentally, and it breaks my heart. They took care of me for years, and now it's my turn to take care of them. My mom is the most wonderful, giving mother you could ever ask for. You can't ever leave her house without her giving you something, a magazine, a bag of chocolate chips, cookies, an old metal spatula that you had your eyes on, and the list goes on and on. And than there's my step-dad. A man who stepped up the role of father when my real dad was killed in an accident years ago. He has been a true blessing to my mother and all of us six kids. In his younger days, he could of built an addition from beginning to end, but now I would not ask him to do anything. I want to do this for them, my parents. The two people whom have always been there and done everything for me. It's my time to do this for both of them. So, I"m asking for help with this project. A nice addition to add onto my small cabin for my parents to live out the rest of their days comfortably.
