SMART has been a part of my life since 1999, when as a fourth grader I was accpeted into the program. (Peep my adorable interview day picture on the left)
My parents brought me to the US from Mexico because they wanted me to be able to reach my full potential and this is exactly what SMART helped me do. Through SMART I received the resources and support necessary to succeed at a private middle school (Synergy) and high school (International French American).
In 2012, I graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in Political Science! I was the first in my family to graduate from college, and for that I will always be thankful to SMART.
It is incredibly gratifying for me to now work for SMART. As their Curriculum and Workshops Coordinator, I am proud to contribute to an organization that works so pasionately towards educational equity.
Since 1997, SMART has prepared highly-motivated, low-income students to achieve individual success. Ninety-four percent of SMART Scholars are the first in their family to attend college and since 2011, 100% of SMART graduates pursue a college degree (compared to 51% nationally).
This holiday season I ask that you please join me in supporting this amazing organization by donating whatever amonunt you can! Every dollar you donate yields $6.50 of return in support to our students.
