EVENT DATE: Sep 21, 2014
Since attending Curefest last year, 2 sweet young friends of Justin and I lost their lives to childhood brain cancer. Justin and I will be walking on 21 September in Washington DC to raise money for the Smashing Walnuts Foundation. Gabriella Miller lost her life last October to DIPG at age 10 and her dear friend, Erin, lost her life to DIPG only 9 short days ago, on the 1st day of September, the 1st day of Childhood Cancer Awareness month. She was 14 yrs old.
We already knew Gabriella when we were once again blown away by her speaking abilities at Curefest 2013. We also had the joy of meeting Erin and mom, Amanda, attending Curefest all the way from Australia. Erin and Gabriella were both taken by the same tumor, DIPG, an incurable childhood brain cancer. Both of these sweet girls unselfishly shared their stories with the hope of raising awareness and research dollars to help other kids not meet their fate...and their amazing families both donated their tumors to researchers in hopes of someday finding a cure for DIPG. Please consider donating to the Curefest Walk.
Before Gabriella passed away, she and her family started the Smashing Walnuts Foundation to raise much needed research funds for a cure for childhood brain cancer. Any funds raised by our participation in the Curefest Walk will go to Smashing Walnuts, will honor Gabriella and Erin, and the numerous other kiddos who have fought, who continue to fight, and especially so many that have lost the fight due to lack of research and treatments. Thanks so much.
