BENEFITING: Wellness House
Our wife, mother, and friend fought a long and very private battle with cancer for over four years that she lost on November 3, 2015. While the journey went through many stages, one common element throughout was her desire to keep her health issues private. She had a strong desire to live her day to day life without her cancer influencing every interaction she had, whether that was with family, close friends, or the associate working the register at her favorite Goodwill store.
The reason varies but the need is the same for a majority of cancer patients - how do I handle the hair loss that comes with the treatment of my disease? For those of us who have never worn one, the quick Google search may make you think that this is a problem with a low cost solution. If you talk to someone who has been through this firsthand, it isn't for several reasons. The most affordable wigs aren't comfortable, they are hot and itchy on the scalp. People don't want just any wig, they want one that most closely matches their pre-treatment look. And many will tell you that most importantly, the process of searching for the right wig is a very personal one that is yet one more burden to shoulder with everything else going on in their lives.
Mom volunteered for over 20 years at The Courtyard, a consignment shop that benefits Wellness House. Wellness House's mission is to give people back the the strength, community, and control that cancer can take away. To continue the support that she provided to this mission for decades, our friends and family established an endowment to provide those with cancer one component of what they need as they battle their disease. For some, that is simply a private and comfortable location to have a consultation with a stylist. For others, it includes financial support to take home a high quality wig at no cost that will give them back a small part of what they have lost through treatment. In Linda's memory, her friends have donated over $17,000 in addition to what we as a family provided to establish what we hope will be a longstanding opportunity to provide women and men with the right environment and the best products to help them take control back over an important part of their life during their treatment, just as our wife/mother/Linda was able to do.
We dearly appreciate your generous support of this cause in memory of our dearest Linda Eisel. Together we can help hundreds of people to live as mom wanted, giving them back the ability to smile and celebrate today.
