Hello! You may already know about the great opportunities and programming that I help offer at Cycles for Change(C4C), but I'd like to write a bit about what I care most about here.
I came to Cycles for Change two years ago, driven by a curiosity of how a non-profit bicycle shop opperates, and where I could fit in. Traditionally, bicycle shops have the reputation of a holier than thou attitude, patroned by lycra clad elite atheletes. Is this who all bicyclists are?
The reality in the bike lanes said otherwise to me. My fellow cyclists were in cut off jeans, work shirts, with squeaky chains on bikes that just needed a little TLC, and a space to feel welcomed into.
When I first entered, I knew that C4C was something special. I grew up wanting to become an educator much like parents, but sidetracked and found a love for bicycles on the way there. Cycles for Change has offered me an opportunity to teach high-school aged youth bicycle mechanics, life skills, and show there are different ways we can help the communities that we live in.
I can honestly say, I work along side the brightest youth, with attitudes that will make your chain skip a link!
One of the programming oppertunities I am most proud of is our Open Shop where anyone may walk in with a bicycle in need of repair and will be able to learn, get their hands dirty, and fix their bike at an affordable price in a comfortable space. We help hundreds of cyclists throughout a year learn a little or a lot about bicycle repair!
Your donation will help us become better outfitted to serve the changing needs of our community. Whether you're a thousand mile a year rider, commute to work regardless of the weather, or a weekend cruise around the block rider, we all know the feeling and agency a bicycle can offer to someone. If you are able, please consider donating to offer the freedom of a bicycle to someone else.
