The students of the Southern Methodist University's Oboe Studio are organizing their talents to fight cancer. Join us for a recital and fundraiser, or donate here to help us support our chosen 501c3, the Cancer Support Community of North Texas. Through this project we are honoring and offering our support to Ryan Anthony, principal trumpet of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, who is fighting Myeloma.
The Cancer Support Community of North Texas provides outstanding theraputic services for struggling cancer patients AND their entire families, completely free of charge. More Americans are forced to file for bankrupcy because of basic medical expenses over any other reason. According to the American Cancer society, the average out-of-pocket expenses for a cancer INSURED patient is over 1,300 dollars. You can imagine the catastrophic amount for those who are not insured.
Safe havens like the North Texas Cancer Support Group allow these struggling families access to services which otherwise may not be affordable. Exercise courses, counseling sessions, children's programs, and many other recreational activites are offered to provide relief from the detriment of this disease. In addition, many studies have shown that a healthy mentality is just as vital as the medicine in order for these patients and families to recover.
We hope that through this project we can spread a greater sense of awareness through our community about how vital these programs truly are, in addition to assisting with their financial struggle, and ultimately, help this community save the lives of the people we know and love.
Please consider attending our benefit recital on May 4th, and/or making a donation to this life saving program.
Thank you! And please check out the support group's website below!
