BENEFITING: SPAY AND NEUTER KANSAS CITY
THROUGH OUR SPAY AND NEUTER, WELLNESS CLINIC AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS WE WILL: REDUCE THE NUMBER OF UNWANTED AND STRAY ANIMALS ENTERING OUR SHELTERS AND HELP OTHER HOMELESS PETS IMPROVE THEIR CHANCE AT A NEW AND LOVING HOME.
Spay & Neuter Kansas City's Pet Outreach Program is a helpful resource in our community that does not judge pet owners based on limited financial resources and does not take animals from their homes. Instead, we educate and assist pet owners to improve their pet’s quality of life, increase the animal-human-bond and make long term positive impacts in our community and animal welfare.
Our efforts efforts have contributed to a reduction in shelter intake and share in the successes of the community (1.2M) reaching a 90% live release rate in the Greater Kansas City Community.
More about SNKC's Pet Outreach Program
Spay and Neuter Kansas City started our Pet Outreach program in 2006 with a primary goal of increasing pet retention through education and resources. By supporting and encouraging long term care for these pets in our community, we help preserve the investment the community makes on subsidized surgeries, animal care and housing for shelter pets, and veterinary care for rescued pets. Education and pet retention is extremely important to help decrease future incurring costs to local shelters. This program is key to LONG-TERM impacts to build a better community that will ultimately improve the quality of lives for pets.
Our team focuses on targeted areas of Kansas City that are responsible for nearly 80% of all animal control calls. Staff and trained volunteers canvass these areas on a regular basis in a door-to-door campaign to meet pet owners, promote responsible pet ownership, schedule spay/neuter appointments and distribute basic pet supplies such as dog houses, pet food to help increase pet retention.
Being in the front lines and active in our community we see firsthand that most pet owners truly love their pets. Nearly 85% of the pet owners we assist have taken their pets in off the street but often struggle with the means to properly care for their pets. We are non-judgmental and compassionate to those who are willing to help the homeless and unwanted pets of our community. We are well received in our community and our approach is helping keep animals in their homes with the owners who love them.
