THE STORY:

Each Christmas Eve, the brothers of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary (SS.CC.) renew their religious vows as they commemorate the anniversary of the founding of their religious order, which took place on Christmas Eve 1800 on Picpus Street in France.

27 years later, SS.CC. brothers were commissioned to proclaim God's redeeming Love to His people to the Kingdom of Hawai'i where they built nearly all of the islands' parishes, schools, orphanage, etc.  Some of these brothers served as Hawai'i's first bishops.  Another one of these brothers is Saint Damien De Veuster

Today, 187 years later, they continue to pastor and administer parishes, organizations in what is now the 50th State of Hawai'i.

In 1905, the brothers were invited to the Diocese of Fall River, MA and continue to serve as pastor to a number of the parish communities and as spiritual director to the Sacred Hearts Retreat Center in Wareham, MA.

The mission and ministries provided by the SS.CC., United States of America Province continue to thrive with growth beyond their locations in: Massachusetts, Texas, California and Hawaii. We have brothers serving the needs of the poor and the marginalized in Reynossa, Mexico; Bagong Silang, Philippines; the Region of India; and our newest mission is in Nukua'lofa, Tonga.

Along with these responsibilities, we also have men who are currently discerning religious life with the SS.CC., of these men, five are currently attending college to prepare for life as brothers or priests.

As you can imagine, the cost of these ministries and education is quite high.  So,Soane Uiagalelei, a Catholic music minister born in Western Samoa and raised in Hawai'i is offering his time and musical talent to produce a cd of some of his favorite Catholic hymns.  The proceeds of this cd will be given to the SS.CC. to further advance their mission and formation programs.

Friends donating $5000 will be presented with (8) signed copies of the cd and a "Provincial 3000" table for eight (8) guests will be reserved in their name at the celebration of St. Damien DeVeuster, SS.CC.'s 175th Birthday scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 3, 2015, 10am - 1pm.
