THE STORY:

Kristina Kaiser wrote -

Have fun. Be healthy. Do good!

Human Trafficking affects millions of people who are bribed, coerced, and tricked into hard and degrading jobs without pay and without the option to leave. But we can end the injustice.

THE PLAN: Run or walk on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Wollaston Beach. We'll meet in the first parking lot on the LEFT after the intersection of Quincy Shore Drive and Furnace Brook Pkwy.

Arrive by: 9:45am

Run/Walk: 10:00am

This will be an informal event. No running bibs. No timing. Just people gathered for a cause. So bring water and plan to use your phone if you want to time yourself.

WILL YOU JOIN US in raising awareness about human trafficking? Your donation/fundraising will go to 2 organizations: Amirah and The River South Center

A LITTLE MORE INFO: Over the last year, we have been able to partner financially with a number of local organizations thanks to your generosity. Last year, 75% of what we raised through the 5K went to Amirah House, a safe home for survivors of trafficking. Through our pop-up Arrojo cafe events, we were also able to support the Abolitionist Network, RIA House, and Roxbury Youthworks. And most recently, we have formed the Quincy Fair Trade Task Force as we work towards the goal of fair wages and fair treatment for people around the world. Our purchasing power can set the world free.

Again this year, 75% of all funds raised will benefit Amirah.

Amirah is a North-Shore based nonprofit providing refuge for women who have been trafficked in the sex industry. Amirah offers a safe home for women to engage in whole-person, trauma-informed, individualized programs. Amirah believes that every human life is worthy of love, mercy and justice, and their goal is to see women they serve restored and empowered. For more info: www.amirahboston.org.

The remaining 25% of funds raised will support The River South Center. The Center exists to be a catalyst of hope and joy in the community and to be the ones to use our talents and resources to make a difference in the world.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

1. Complete your registration for race day by clicking "Join the Team."

2. Ask people to sponsor you. We suggest aiming for a minimum goal of $25. The fundraising aspect of this 5K is not just a way to raise money. It's a way to raise awareness. One simple email, a few clicks on your social media pages, and suddenly, you are part of making a difference. The numbers and statistics surrounding human trafficking are disturbing. But there is good news. Many believe that if we get enough people involved, we will be able to see Human Trafficking end in our lifetime.

3. Show up on Race Day! (This event is all about the cause, so race day will be informal. No racing bibs. No formal timing. Just bring yourself, your water, and your phone.)

ABOUT US: The SOBO Project (See the One. Be the One.) was created to raise awareness about human trafficking, to create safe places for people at risk people, and to partner with others in developing places for survivors to recover, heal, and find empowerment.
