In all of Nakivale Refugee Settlement – where 130,000 people live – you’ll find no standard sports field or court. I want to change that!
I am Naguma Haseva Ali, and I’m the head teacher of Nakivale Secondary School where we have 1,638 learners from 7 different nationalities.
My group of teachers and I want our secondary school to be central sporting center in Nakivale. Starting with our futbol pitch… We have to upgrade our field to international standards! – lay it out to the exact measurements, install proper goal posts and corner flags, and get rid of the anthills and bumps so the surface of the field is all level.
We started the process ourselves but we ran out of money. So for the last three months, the students have had nowhere to play.
We have talented athletes in Nakivale. Last year both the girls and boys teams reached regionals! But they are limited by our facilities and equipment. No teams will come here to play with us because our field is not standard.
If we can have a standard futbol field and some good balls and pumps, our learners will be able to explore their talents at another level. And people from all throughout Nakivale can come and use the facility.
